
Begüm Uzun
Begüm Uzun has a PhD in Political Science from the University of Toronto and is a full time faculty member in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at MEF University, Istanbul. Her dissertation is titled “Incorporating Youth into the Political Arena: Elite Structures, Elite-Youth Linkages, and Youth (de-)Mobilization in post-1960 Turkey” and investigates the emergence, expansion, and recession of youth political activity in Turkey from 1960 up until recently through comparative-historical analysis. Her research interests include youth political participation, state-society relations, regime transitions, and Turkish politics. Begüm Uzun has a BA and an MA in Political Science and International Relations from Marmara University and Boğaziçi University, respectively. Before starting to teach at the MEF University, she taught courses at the University of Toronto and Marmara University. She was the principal investigator (with D.Lüküslü and Y. Taskın) in the research project titled “(The Politics of) Religious-Secular Polarization and Youth in Turkey: The Political Orientations of Muslim and Secular Youth”, which was published as a book in Turkish in 2019.
