She graduated from Galatasaray University, and she received her M.A. degree from Stendhal University-Grenoble III. In 2006, she completed Communication Sciences Ph.D. programme at Marmara University with her thesis, entitled “New Public Sphere of Global Capitalism: The Use of the Internet by New Social Movements”. Over the last 15 years, she’s been teaching communication and media studies at various universities. Between 2019-2020, Şener conducted a research, entitled "Digital Feminist Activism in Turkey", as a Visiting Fellow at the Media and Communication Department of the London School of Economics (LSE). She has several publications, including editing books on digital activism, video activism, social media and digital gender-based violence. Currently, she is associate professor at the New Media Department of 15 November Cyprus University.
