Özlem Avcı

She was born in 1977 in Ankara. She completed her academic education in Sociology at Hacettepe University, Communication at Galatasaray University, and Sociology at MSGSU, respectively. She received her PhD in Sociology with her thesis titled "Religious University Youth in Istanbul". After her doctorate, she worked as a visiting researcher at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Center for Middle Eastern Studies and at the Media Studies Department of the Royal Holloway University of London. She continues to work on Islamic Youth Movements, Cultural Studies and Media Studies, and Methodology in Social Sciences. She is in the final stage of a longitudinal study on “New Societies, Changing Communication Styles and Youth” during the Covid 19 Pandemic process. She also works as a researcher in an international project on television series, while continuing her research on recent historical television series as a means of discourse and representation.  Özlem Avcı, who has been an elected member of the Communication Specialization Committee of the UNESCO Turkish National Commission since 2014, is still a faculty member at the Department of Sociology at Uşak University.
