Urban Youth, Inequalities, and Social Policy

The research unit "Urban Youth, Inequalities, and Social Policy" is dedicated to fostering knowledge and policies that uphold democratic rights and equality for youth residing in both metropolitan and small-scale urban areas across Turkey.

Our work spans a broad spectrum of urban youth issues, encompassing but not limited to:

  • Youth unemployment

  • Housing

  • Health

  • Social protection

  • Precarious and exclusionary working conditions for young workers

  • Experiences of young people who are not in employment, education, or training (NEET)

  • Access to food and healthcare

  • Right to transportation

  • Youth participation and inclusion in urban settlements

  • Right to freedom of expression and access to information

  • Right to socially sustainable, inclusive, and green public spaces

Our mission is to inform and expand the understanding of these crucial topics and contribute to the formulation and implementation of policies that address the needs and challenges faced by urban youth in Turkey. By promoting democratic principles and equality, we strive to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for the young generation. Our ultimate goal is to foster an environment where all urban youth have access to opportunities, resources, and services, regardless of their socio-economic backgrounds or geographical locations. Through rigorous research and policy advocacy, we are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of young people and advancing social justice in urban settings.
